World Economic Forum “Sports for People and Planet Insight Report”

The World Economic Forum has published its much-anticipated Sports for People and Planet Insight Report in collaboration with Oliver Wyman with clear actions for our membership base across the sporting goods industry. 

The report connects participation in sport and physical activity, sustainability and economic performance in a way that directly affects the future growth of our industry. 

At its core, the report sends a clear signal: the way that sport and physical activity are enabled today will shape demand, resilience and competitiveness in the immediate future. 

WHY THIS REPORT MATTERS FOR OUR INDUSTRY

For the first time, we are provided with a comprehensive picture of the global sports economy, now valued at an est. $2.3 trillion (compiled by WEF knowledge partner Oliver Wyman). Making up a quarter of this impressive economic number is the sporting goods industry, valued at $614 billion with strong growth projected in the years ahead.

SPORT IS ESSENTIAL: A CALL TO PROTECT EU FUNDING FOR SPORT IN THE NEXT MFF A joint statement from European sport and physical activity stakeholders

In view of the upcoming discussions on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the period after
2027, the European sports and physical activity sector is deeply concerned about the potential
reallocation of funds away from sport and health enhancing physical activity, driven by geopolitical
tensions and the growing focus on defense investments. The signatories strongly believe that reducing
funding for sport would harm the resilience of Europe. Sport is a foundational pillar of physical and
mental health, economic growth, and the promotion of European values. Sport has proven to bring
people together, foster inclusion, and advance peace.
We, the undersigned stakeholders from across the European sport and political sector, call on EU
policymakers to protect and prioritise investments in sport and physical activity within the next MFF.

The winter sports industry takes next leap and joins Race to Zero

The Winter Sports Sustainability Network (WSN), managed by Peak 63 and the Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI), takes an important step forward when the Winter Sports Industry Climate Pact signatories have officially joined the UN Race to Zero Campaign. This marks a significant step forward in the industry’s collective effort to fight climate change and advance toward carbon neutrality.

Nederlandse toezichthouders: gezamenlijke aanpak e-commerce producten nodig om consumenten te beschermen

Het aantal producten dat rechtstreeks bij de Europese consument terechtkomt via e-commerce platforms buiten de Europese Unie (EU) groeit explosief. Om consumenten te beschermen tegen onveilige en niet-duurzame producten moeten alle partijen in de productie- en distributieketen hun verantwoordelijkheid nemen en is een gezamenlijke aanpak nodig. Dit is de oproep die de Nederlandse markttoezichtautoriteiten Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport (ILT), Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit (NVWA), Inspectie Gezondheidszorg en Jeugd (IGJ), Rijksinspectie Digitale Infrastructuur (RDI), Nederlandse Arbeidsinspectie (Arbeidsinspectie) en de Douane doen aan de minister van Economische Zaken. Deze oproep staat in het signaal ‘E-commerce platforms buiten de EU zorgen voor onveilige (markt)producten‘ dat aan minister Beljaarts is gestuurd.

Pulse Sports wint de 14e Dutch Sports Innovation Award 2024!

Vandaag werd tijdens de ELIS Innovation Summit for Sports & Vitality in Eindhoven de 14e Dutch Sports Innovation Award 2024 uitgereikt aan Pulse Sports, die een stimuleringsprijs ter waarde van €15.000,- in ontvangst mocht nemen. Dorothee Laan, manager Kennis & Monitoring bij de Beweegalliantie en jurylid, overhandigde samen met Samir Toub, wethouder sport in Eindhoven, de prijs aan Pulse Sports als erkenning voor hun innovatieve benadering van sport- en welzijnsmonitoring.

De Dutch Sports Innovation Award is een prestigieuze prijs die innovatieve en kansrijke producten of diensten op het gebied van topsport en/of recreatieve sport stimuleert. De award wordt jaarlijks uitgereikt aan een onderneming met een concept dat zich niet alleen onderscheidt door de mate van vernieuwing, maar ook door zijn potentiële impact op de sportwereld en op een gezonde, actieve leefstijl. Dit initiatief van Cluster Sports & Technology ondersteunt innovatieve startups in het domein Sport & Vitaliteit en helpt hen bij het realiseren van hun groeiambities.
